Celebrate

....and guys! :-D

Well, it's official! They dismissed the "expired tag" charge on the grounds of our commissioners letter saying it was their office's fault. Thank you, Lord! It's a huge relief for me, now I don't have to worry about it any more! Even though I didn't realize it, the "charge" and pressure of having to appear in court made me feel criminal enough - and I hadn't done a thing!

We've been doing a bit of spring cleaning - yes, guys, I'm taking it easy...at least trying to! haha

I'm trying to get enough of my work done so I can go with my Granny Duh to a Civil War meeting. You see, my Papa Hoyt was involved with the re-enacting community before he passed away, and they are doing something special tonight - at least we heard it was in the works, although it's been hard to confirm what! But I hope to find out later on tonight...and I felt so special to be invited by my grandmother to go along, because that was something that Papa Hoyt and I shared - a love for history, especially the Civil War era. Many times I dressed up for re-enactments in period dresses while he would go out and play shoot 'em!

Gotta run and finish that cleaning, but did want to pass on the good news! :-) Thanks so much for your lovely words of encouragement - they helped so much more than you'll ever know.

I'm glad court worked out for you. That's never fun.

I went back and read your May 1st account of the vehicle stop. Although I know it's never fun to be pulled over, I need to tell you, the account you gave sounds like a standard vehicle stop, especially for a car that didn't pull over when the lights came on.

In the business we call that Failure To Yield. To the patrolman, the fact that the driver isn't pulling over immediately gives them suspiscion that something is wrong, possibly someone drunk, or with something to hide. The dispatcher immediately starts additional patrol cars to the area to cover, in case things go bad. The fact that you WERE driving a nice mustang that could, in all likelyhood, givek the cruiser a run for the money, makes things all the more dicey for officers, since they don't know if the driver is gonna take off at high speed when they step out of their patrol car.

Although calling your parents seems perfectly normal to you, the police officer doesn't know who you are calling. Perhaps someone else to head over to the vehicle stop and cause trouble, or help you get away? Or, even when kids calls parents, we've had completely irate parents show up at the vehicle stop and literally start fights with the officers who had the audacity to pull over their child. That's why the officer told you to get off the phone immediately.

And, since you are 20 years old, you are considered an adult and don't get to have your parents look over anything. You can certainly have an attorney later, but your parents no longer play anything but an advisory roll when it comes to this type of stuff.

Yeah, the cop was probably overbearing and terse with you, but it was probably because he was a bit jacked up and adrenalized over thinking he might have to get in a pursuit of a hot mustang that's refusing to pull over, and a driver who's hastily making phone calls, all the while watching the cops in her mirror.

Getting pulled over is never fun, even for me, and I work for the police. Just remember, 99.9% of cops are just doing their job, as safely as they can. If citizens do their job, and remain calm and follow directions, everyone gets to go home safely afterwards.

That's the officer's main goal, trust me,

my dad was "in the business" and i am told that he always treated people with respect until someone was breaking the law....then i can understand getting excited..but less than 2/10 of a mile at 30 mph, is a little short too get too caught up in emotions. i would hate to see how this gentleman would react if there really was a crime being committed, if he gets this worked up over absolutely nothing.

sure it's no fun to get pulled over. but i've been pulled over twice, and issued one ticket, and actually i went alot further than 2/10 of a mile and was speeding. but somehow the patrolman found it inside himself to use some honor and respect. i guess that's too much to ask these guys, these days? i'm sorry, i just refuse to believe that every officer these days are just out to push their weight and their power around. perhaps i'll be proven wrong.

but yea, i guess i just have to ask the question again...exactly what would this officer do if he really were to be in a sitution where it's not a 19 yr old girl, slowing down to 30 mph, looking for a place to pull over on a busy 4 lane, for less than 2/10 of a mile, knowing by his computer history that this car has no history? scary thought, officer james!

Thank you for your comments on Partners in Prayer. I don't have a blog - everyone's trying to talk me into it. I just haven't had time to even think about it. And I never think I have that much to say! But thanks for the kind words. It is a great story!

I am so glad that the court thing worked out on your favor. It was insane to begin with.
So, you like history, instersting. I like history too, but much farther back than the Civil War. Don't know too much about it, because we didn't have in school in Germany.
Glad you are doing a little better - hope you are taking it easy, but at the sound of it - you are not.

I'm glad the judge ruled in your favor!

Per Mike's comment I believe that any cop that get's mad at a teen for trying to call their parents when pulled over should consider another job. I can't see how it's any of his business. Plus parents often give some of the best advise ever!
